My name is Eddie Mitchell, and my story is a Christian testimony of redemption, revealing God’s mercy, restoration, and amazing grace.

Christian man

I was born in Huntsville, Alabama, and my very birth was a miracle. Before my father returned to Nigeria, he gave my mother money to end her pregnancy. But instead, she chose life — and used that money to care for my older brother and me. From the beginning, God had His hand on me.

I grew up in a family of pastors and believers, surrounded by church life. But as a teenager, I strayed from my faith. I began selling drugs and was eventually expelled from school. My mother moved our family to the countryside to give me a fresh start. There, I found my footing again — excelling in school, rediscovering my relationship with God, and finishing strong.

In high school, I became a talented athlete and earned a college football scholarship. But once more, I chased “fast money” and lost everything — my scholarship, my education, and my way. Thankfully, I later attended a Christian school, reconnected with God, and graduated with a renewed sense of purpose.

In 2001, my girlfriend and I had a son. Wanting to care for my family, I left college — but sadly, I returned to the drug trade. This time, I was arrested for possession and firearm charges. Under Alabama’s “5-to-15 rule,” I faced serious consequences. But through God’s mercy, I served five years, stayed sober, completed probation, and returned to the church. In time, I became a Deacon, committed to living for the Lord.

I trained as an electrician in 2002 and worked across several states. But during the COVID pandemic, a moment of fear and poor judgment led to another arrest. I spent six months in Maricopa County Jail before being sentenced to three years at Red Rock Correctional Facility. There, and later at La Palma Correctional Center, I faced isolation and hardship — but it was in that darkness that I finally surrendered fully to God.

At La Palma, I connected with Along Side Ministries, and they became the hands and feet of Christ in my life. Their volunteers walked beside me, encouraged me, and helped me see that God still had a purpose for me. Through their guidance, I grew in faith and began to rebuild my life on God’s foundation.

Christian family

Since my release, God has been restoring everything I lost. My family and I have reconciled, my children are back in my life, and I’m active in my church once again. Soon, I’ll be returning to Alabama — to Bridge Street Town Center — to continue living out God’s plan for me and my family.

I give God all the glory for my transformation. What the enemy meant for evil, God turned into redemption and purpose.

All glory to God! I am a new man in Christ. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
