Statement of Faith

1.1. Statement of Faith

We Believe that the Old and New Testament is the verbally inspired, infallible Word of God. It is without error in the original writings and is the supreme and final authority in faith and life. (Matthew 5:18, I Thessalonians 2:13, II Timothy 3:16-17) We Believe in One God, Creator of all things, eternally existing in three persons, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. They are coeternal and equal in dignity and power. (Genesis 1:1-2, Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 44:6, Matthew 28:18-20, II Corinthians 13:14) We Believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ, His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary and is the true God and true man. He lived a sinless Life, rose from the dead, ascended to heaven and we wait for his imminent return. (Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 2:40, Philippians 2:5-8, Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 1:3, John 20:20, I Thessalonians 4:16-17) We Believe man was created by and for God, and sinned and thereby incurred physical death and spiritual death, which is separation from God. All people are sinners by nature and practice. (Genesis 1:28-28, Romans 5:8, Genesis 3:1-24) We Believe Jesus died for our sins and that all who believe in Him are declared righteous because of His blood sacrifice. We are justified by grace through faith in Jesus. (II Corinthians 5:18-21, Romans 5:8, Romans 10:9-10, Ephesians 2:8-9) We Believe that the church is a spiritual organism made up all believers in Christ united by the Holy Spirit. The primary purpose is to make Jesus Christ known to the World and to mature into His Likeness. (Matthew 28:19-20, Colossians 1:18) We Believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit who indwells each believer and is the source of all power for spiritual growth. (John 14:16-17, John 16:7-15, Ephesians 2:22) We Believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost. (Matthew 25:34, 41, 46, Revelation 20: 10-15, II Thessalonians 1:9)

B. In the Non-Essentials - We Desire Liberty or the Freedom to agree to disagree. We ask that in the many Non-Essentials that they are not emphasized over the unity of the Essentials

C. In All Things-Charity - We are all part of the Family of God and need to remain unified.

A. The Following Essentials - We Desire Unity

1.2. Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female and the biological identity of each person is determined at birth. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen 1:26-27.) Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen 2:18-25.) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1Cor 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb 13:4.) We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography is sinful and offensive to God. (Matt 15:18-20; 1 Cor 6:9-10.) We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of Along Side Ministries (ASM) as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to the ASM members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by ASM in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality. (Matt 5:16; Phil 2:14-16; 1 Thes 5:22.) We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Cor 6:9-11.) We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31.) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of ASM.

1.3. Final Authority for Matters of Belief and Conduct

The statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Along Side Ministries’ faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our board of directors is Along Side Ministries’ final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.

1.4. Statement on the Sanctity of Human Life

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Ps 139.)
