You might remember Chris from the cover of our September 2020 newsletter; a giant of a man who fell in with the wrong crowd, who was involved in an armed robbery that ended with three people dead; the man who found Jesus on death row –
and lived to tell about it.
Back then, he claimed to be a new man. But was it genuine? Was the transformation he said he found, with Along Side’s help after 27 years behind bars, real?
Spending just five minutes with Chris will put any doubt you have to rest.
Since we last checked in, Chris has been promoted at work four times over the course of a year. He’s found the love of his life and is happily married. He even was blessed to see his friend Daniel take his advice, seek out Along Side and watch his life change for the better.
But through it all, he’s never
forgotten what God told him all
those years ago on death row.
“I had a dream where He said to me, ‘You be about my business and I’ll be about your business.'"
God has kept his end of the bargain. To this day, Chris is keeping his end, too.
“Me and Ken Sheets, we go to churches. I give my story and tell them how Along Side came alongside. I was telling Ken, now that I’m off parole, you can get me an ID so I can go back into the prison and start telling them too!” he says.
“But in the meantime, I’m focusing on loving my wife and being an example to the younger generation at work. It’s like the saying goes, ‘At all times preach the gospel, and when necessary, use words.’”
