Inside Prison/Jail

Inmates Florence North baptism.jpg

Qualifications and Commitment: The Department of Corrections must approve (badge) volunteers before they can serve inside prison. Badging is for one-year, so ASM requires a minimum one-year commitment. Ex-offenders must be at least one year off parole/probation. The time and frequency of service varies by position. Travel time must be considered.

Mentor: Mentors are mature Christians willing to be trained in the ASM model. The mentor meets with a programmer bi-weekly up to a year before release and a minimum of nine months after release. The mentor uses ASM Mentor Manuals to help the inmate prepare for successful reentry. Inside mentoring sessions are normally conducted during our Discipleship Groups from 6:30 – 8:00 PM. The time commitment is 18-24 months.

Bible Study Teacher: Mature Christian Bible teachers who share the love of Christ, help inmates grow as Christians, and prepare for reentry. Teaches the practical application of scripture and promotes the ASM program. ASM’s weekly groups are normally in the evenings 6:30-8:00 PM.  The time commitment is one year, weekly or bi-weekly, and can be seasonal.

Prayer Partners, Teachers Assistants, Worship Leaders: Assists the teacher in our weekly groups. Prayer partners pray with inmates and encourage them in their relationship with the Lord.  Assistants help with set up, sign-ins, and distribution of materials. Worship leaders provide music, sound equipment, or musical instruments.  The commitment is weekly or bi-weekly and can be seasonal. A good combination is to serve in one of these roles and be a Substitute Teacher.

ASM Jail Ministry volunteers serve inside the Maricopa County Jails providing Bible studies and one-on-one meetings. The goal is to share the love of Christ, educate inmates on ASM programs, and encourage ongoing Christian discipleship.  Jail volunteers must be badged by MCSO. The time commitment is one year, very flexible, and can be seasonal.
