Many Ex-offenders leave prison with:

A $50 Check
No place to go
No Family Support
No Job

Any wonder why so many don’t make it?

Mentor relationships
Crucial to the success of our ministry is a godly man or woman coming along side a Christian being released from prison.  The role of the mentor is accountability and friendship.  Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 states:  'Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor.  For if they fall, one will lift up his companion…Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.'
The 'threefold cord' in Along Side Ministries is (1) the individual's personal relationship with Jesus Christ, (2) a loving church in which to grow and be discipled, and (3) a Christian man or woman to walk closely with them through the transition process.

We match an inmate with a mentor up to 12 months prior to release.  Mentors meet with their mentee every two weeks and work through a program designed to do four things :
  1. Give an assurance of God's love and salvation
  2. Understand issues the inmate will face upon their release
  3. Develop character qualities needed to walk as a victorious Christian on the outside
  4. Build a realistic transition plan
The role of the mentor is to remain with the mentee for six months after release to help him implement the plan the two of them have designed while in prison. Click here to learn about becoming a mentor
